1. What is Web Hosting?
Web Hosting is a service provided by an Internet Service Provider or Web Hosting company that provides disc space on a server that allows access to the Internet. A customer is given access to this server by a username and password, and is used to host a customer's web site.
2. Do I need special software to host a web site?
Generally yes. Popular web building software is DreamWeaver, Front Page, Microsoft Word, Netscape Composer, Aleza, Web Page Pro and others. This software can be purchased online or at many retail outlets that sell software or computers. Shareware is also available.
3. Where does my web site and email domain physically reside?
On a server(s) provided by Plateau Internet.
4. Who is eligible to host a web site on Plateau's server?
Any Plateau Internet customer.
5. What types of domains does Plateau host?
Plateau Internet hosts registered domain names and domains that are sub directories off of Plateau's servers.
6. Does Plateau register my domain for me?
No. Plateau requires the customer to register their own domain names before Plateau will host the site (domain name) on our server. Contact Plateau for DNS settings which will be required before Plateau will provide the DNS settings to customers so they will be able to register the domain name.
7. How do I obtain and register a domain name?
You can register a domain name at www.networksolutions.com.
8. Do I need any special equipment or hardware?
A web hosting customer only needs a computer and access to Plateau's Internet service.
9. Does Plateau Internet host email domains?
Yes. The amount of disc space used by the email domains is included in the total amount of web hosting space purchased.
